Some types of fruits and vegetables can drive you to death if
prepared incorrectly.
Cherries’ pits
Cherries are
obviously one of the most versatile fruits which are rich in anti-oxidants
helping regulate the body and fight against heart-related diseases, high blood
pressure and diabetes. However, ingesting just one or two freshly crushed pits
can lead to death because the pits contain hydrogen cyanide- an extremely
poisonous compound.
Next time
you are eating cherries, remember not to suck on or chew the pit.
Rhubarb’s leaves
Rhubarb is a
wonder plant which is commonly used in many cuisines and medicines around the
world. The stems are edible and the roots have been consumed as a laxative and
poop softener, but the leaves contain oxalic acid- a chemical used in
detergents and anti-rust products which will drive your stomach and nervous
system to a highly dangerous mode.
Starfruits
Starfruits
are contraindicated for individuals with some types of kidney disease because
they are susceptible to adverse neurological effects including intoxication,
seizures and even death because of a toxin named caramboxin (CBX).
Green potatoes
If you’ve
looked at potatoes, you may realize that some turn a greenish color due to
levels of solanine - a natural pesticide that’s toxic to humans. Potential
symptoms of solanine poisoning include diarrhea, vomiting and sometimes cardiac
arrest.
Cassava peels
Cassava root
is essentially a carbohydrate source. Moreover, it is rich in calcium, vitamin
C and contains a nutritionally significant quantity of thiamine, riboflavin and
nicotinic acid. However, its peels contain cyanogenic glucosides which are
extremely poisonous. If cassava is prepared incorrectly, it can be deadly.
Nutmegs
Nutmegs are
seeds of the tree native to many regions in Asia which have been used in
medicine for a long period of time. In low doses, nutmegs produce no noticeable
physiological or neurological response, but in large doses, raw nutmegs have
psychoactive effects. Eating two tablespoons of nutmegs in ground form can
induce palpitation, nausea, body pain and even death.
